Dr Judith Dean BN, MPHTM, PhD
Judith Dean BN, MPHTM, PhD is a Registered Nurse and Midwife with over 25 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health, midwifery, and health education. Currently she is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with the University of Queensland, School of Public Health HIV Research Hub conducting a range of HIV and sexual health related projects. Prior to this Judith held a joint appointment between Griffith University School of Nursing and Midwifery and Queensland Health for 14 years where she held the title of Griffith Graduate Sexual Health Program Convenor / Lecturer within the Griffith University School of Nursing and Midwifery and State Nurse Educator for Queensland Sexual Health and HIV Services.
Judith has extensive educational and clinical expertise in sexual health, HIV and women’s health in a diverse range of national and international environments. She has expert knowledge and skills in health professional education, including expertise in curriculum development for undergraduate and postgraduate education; clinical training and professional development programs for nurses and allied health care professionals; health education programs targeting young people both in the school setting and vocational education arena.
She also has extensive experience in providing gender, sexuality, and culturally appropriate health care, education, and support to Indigenous communities and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations in Australia and overseas. This includes over five years’ experience working in the Northern Territory along with two years with International Committee of Red Cross in settings such as South Sudan and Afghanistan. Judith has also undertaken a range of consultancy and guest lecturing positions with organisations such as Health Outcomes International, AUSMED Education, Family Planning Queensland, Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland and the University of Queensland School of Medicine and HIV & HCV Education Program
