Dr Amy Mullens
Amy Mullens has been practicing as a Clinical and Health Psychologist in Queensland since 2001. She has worked across public, private, academic and community settings, with a clinical focus in clinical/health psychology, mental health, alcohol and drug, HIV/Sexual Health, chronic pain, and oncology.
As a Senior Clinician and Team Leader with Queensland Health, she has provided leadership regarding a number of projects in applied clinical research in testing, prevention and management of chronic conditions (e.g., HIV) and has lead numerous clinical governance and applied health research initiatives. These projects have included active consultations with community partners and have focused on improving the lives and well-being of those living with chronic conditions and those from marginalized groups.
In her role as a Clinical Educator with a private company, Amy was responsible for establishing and replicating provisional psychology training models in conjunction with universities. She has also assisted with successfully tendering for large federal and state funded mental health contracts and assisting with achieving national mental health accreditation. During this role Amy was responsible for contributing leadership and supervision for the development, delivery and evaluation of large-scale alcohol and drug group treatment programs across a number of corrective facilities.
Amy completed her Clinical Psychology Master’s degree (focus on behavioural medicine) in the USA in 2001; and later completed a PhD in Psychology at QUT in 2011. She has been training and supervising post-graduate, provisionally registered and other psychologists since 2001 and is accredited as a clinical supervisor with the Psychology Board (AHPRA; STAP) and the APS Colleges of Clinical and Health Psychology.
Throughout her career, Amy has been actively involved in numerous local and statewide community and professional boards, advisory groups and clinical governance committees—including current membership in Floresco Clinical & Community Advisory Group, DVAC Management Committee, and the APS Health Psychology QLD Executive Committee.
Amy’s current role is as a Senior Lecturer with University of Southern Queensland and is responsible for training post-graduate psychologists in the Master of Clinical Psycholology and Master of Professional Psychology programs, and ongoing applied research in clinical/health psychology, health protective behaviour change and chronic condition prevention/management. She also holds adjunct appointments with the University of Queensland Schools of Medicine and Psychology. Amy has co-authored 11 journal articles and a book chapter in the areas of clinical and health psychology.
